In common Western astrology, the twelve signs are grouped into four elements. Those groupings offer a symbolic vocabulary, not a test of whether someone will be faithful, nurturing or compatible with you.
Air: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius
Use the theme as a prompt about communication: What conversations do you enjoy, and how do you prefer to discuss a disagreement? Do not assume someone will be unpredictable or unusually romantic because of the group.
Fire: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius
Try a question about initiative or novelty: What would you enjoy trying together? Boredom does not establish that a person will leave, and enthusiasm does not remove the need for consent and consideration.
Water: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces
Ask about support: When something is difficult, do you want listening, practical help or space? A symbolic association with sensitivity does not establish empathy or an ability to heal a partner.
Earth: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn
Discuss dependability: What agreements help us feel secure? A sign does not guarantee safety, and possessiveness should not be excused as an elemental trait.
Use the answers, not the stereotype
Anyone can answer any of these questions. Listen to the individual, compare expectations and watch how agreements work in practice. You can enjoy astrology together without using it to override a person’s actual preferences or explain away harmful behaviour.
